WILD BROWN TROUT FISHING IN SCOTLAND

Discover the best Wild Trout Fishing in Scotland with experienced professional guides from Edinburgh to the Scottish Highlands.

Brown Trout can be found in abundance in Scotland. From the tiniest wee burns to our enormous, famous glacial lochs.

WILD BROWN TROUT RIVER FISHING IN SCOTLAND

The wild Brown Trout in Scotland’s rivers average around ½ lb – ¾ lb 0r 8-10 inches. What they lack in size they certainly always make up for in spirit.

At certain times of year Brown Trout can be caught regularly up to 3lbs.

There is the possibility of even bigger Trout during the peak of the dry fly fishing season in the Spring months.

This is the best time to target the true leviathans, when you can sight fish to risers.

BEST TIME FOR RIVER TROUT FISHING IN SCOTLAND

The river dry fly fishing is best from late March to June.

Early in the season, hatches of March Browns and Dark Olives can often be short lived.

However, the Trout are hungry and easier to catch having gone through winter and recovering from their spawning endeavours.

As it gets warmer the hatches increase and the trout feed up quickly into prime condition.
This is when they start to get selective and the fishing is best suited to experienced fly fishers.

During the summer and early Autumn the dry fishing is mostly over and it is all euro-nymphing and streamer fishing.

In Autumn/Fall we can get some dry fly sport again should the temperatures start to drop.

Whilst fishing on our lowland rivers we can also fly fish for Grayling in Scotland at certain times of the year.

WILD BROWN TROUT LOCH FISHING IN SCOTLAND

Our Hill Loch or loch (Lake) trout average similar size but there are opportunities to catch fish up 4/5lbs on fly at certain times of year on different lochs.

Our head guide will use his experience to gauge what suits your experience levels best.

Traditional Loch Style wild brown trout season is a method developed for covering large lochs on Scotland with fly rods.

We will drift with the wind sometimes using a drogue to slow the drift down whilst you cast downwind and work a team of traditional Scottish wet flies.

This is arguably the most quintessential fly fishing experience in Scotland!

BEST TIME FOR HILL LOCH TROUT FISHING IN SCOTLAND

Scottish hill lochs tend to be slower to warm up due to their altitude and lower water temperatures.

From May to October you can have consistent fishing pulling a team of wet flies from a drifting boat or walking the banks.

Most of our lochs fish best in a “good ripple”, which is a Scottish term for a moderate to strong wind. During these conditions the Trout will feed with confidence on or very near the surface.

WILD BROWN TROUT FISHING SEASON IN SCOTLAND
